The aim of this research was to develop state-of-the-art capabilities for robust full-vehicle design optimisation.  These capabilities leverage modelling, simulation and expert opinion to facilitate the rapid integration of advanced technologies to provide new vehicle features and functionality. 

The main objectives of the proposed research were (in order of priority) to:

  • Develop a design optimisation environment capable of producing robust designs at a variety of levels, ranging from enterprise level through to component level.
  • Develop a framework that enables a network of decision support and optimisation nodes to operate asynchronously.
  • Demonstrate these capabilities in two pilot case studies, identified by Jaguar Land Rover as being of key strategic importance.
  • Develop an open source software tool that implements the framework and methods.
